Amy Buxman of McPherson Is a PBL Member at Southwestern College

2011 Nov 18

Several Southwestern College business students have taken on a new challenge by taking responsibility for the Southwestern College Academic Press.

Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) is the student business organization on the Southwestern College campus. Students serve as executives and also work sales, inventory control, bookkeeping, marketing, and distribution of the Southwestern College Academic Press.

Amy Buxman, McPherson, is a member of PBL at Southwestern College.

"The students have to get it right," said Andy Sheppard, academic dean. "The authors of the books expect their stuff to sell and the students are fully accountable to the board."

The board includes Dr. Curt Woolhiser, Brandeis University; Sue Hale, former editor of "The Daily Oklahoman"; and Jeff Lowe, attorney at Stinson, Lasswell, and Wilson.

"This is the real world and a great learning lab for the students," said Sheppard.

Southwestern College is a private institution granting undergraduate and graduate degrees and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. About 1,800 students attend classes at the main Winfield campus, at five professional studies sites in Kansas and Oklahoma, or online around the world.
