Jeffrey Adams of Arkansas City Selected to Perform with the Kansas Intercollegiate Orchestra

2012 Feb 15

Six Southwestern College students have been accepted to the Kansas Intercollegiate Orchestra. They will join college musicians from throughout the state for a performance on Friday, Feb. 24, at 2:45 p.m. in the Century II Concert Hall in Wichita. The performance is part of the Kansas Music Educators Association annual conference.

Jeffrey Adams, Arkansas City, was selected.

According to Daniel Stevens, assistant professor of music and director of instrumental activities at SC, the students will be sitting alongside students from colleges and universities around the state including University of Kansas, Kansas State University, Pittsburg State University, Emporia State University, Tabor College, Washburn University, and Kansas Wesleyan University.

"It is wonderful to see the dedicated efforts of this handful of students, in practice and skill," Stevens says. "It is a great accomplishment when the patience and persistence of hard work is rewarded at such a high level. They are sure to have an excellent experience, interacting with colleagues across the state, and should find a renewed spirit in their work moving forward."

The orchestra will be conducted by William LaRue Jones from the University of Iowa. They will be performing the Brahms "Academic Festival Overture" and Tchaikovsky "Capriccio Italian."

The performance is open to the public with a requested guest pass at the front desk at the Century II Concert Hall. For more information, contact Stevens at (620) 229-6113.

Southwestern College is a private institution granting undergraduate and graduate degrees and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. About 1,700 students attend classes at the main Winfield campus, at five professional studies sites in Kansas and Oklahoma, or online around the world.
